Austin, Texas – Treasure Bound Books announces the launch of Treasure Kai and the Seven Cities of Gold 1.0 for iPad, the sequel to the award winning first book app in the series, Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island. Lauded around the globe for creative interactivity, Treasure Kai apps were created by author, Karen Robertson to inspire her dyslexic son to enjoy reading.
“Treasure Kai book apps are unique in that kids become part of the story,” Robertson said. “Kids love how they can help tell the story through their actions.”
Written for kids ages 5-9, Treasure Kai and the Seven Cities of Gold, tells the story of a boy who travels back in time to the New World to race Francisco Coronado in search of the lost Seven Cities of Gold. Readers help Treasure Kai find the lost cities and return home, using a collection of golden keys and magical treasure chests. Over 45 brightly illustrated pages, an original score and integrated game play create a different adventure every time.
The first app in the series, Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island, has been heralded for its appeal to reluctant readers. It was named a “Best in Category” winner for apps at the New Media Film Festival San Francisco, and both a “Top 25 Most Essential Children’s Book App,” and “Top 10 Most Original Book for iPad” by Digital Storytime in 2011. And Treasure Kai has been used in classrooms with common-core-standards-aligned educational activities for reading, writing and science.
In 2007, Robertson was struggling to get her sons to finish reading the books they started. She wrote a treasure hunt adventure book that combined the magic of stories with the fun of little toys. Treasure Kai won the Gold Mom’s Choice Award in 2010. And when one of her sons picked up an iPad for the first time and chose storybook apps over games, she knew the book would make a unique book app.
“Story book apps that deliver a multi-sensory reading experience can be magical for getting kids excited about reading,” Robertson said.
Originally from Texas, Robertson spent the last 18 years in Australia. She returned to Texas in July 2012, so that her son could attend a school for dyslexic children. Robertson is also the founder of Digital Kid’s Author, a website which provides information and resources for children’s writers and illustrators who want to know how to turn books into book apps.
