Child-Proof the iPad with the Speck iGuy case available from Mobile Fun – News

[prweb] Mobile Fun, the UK’s leading online retailer of mobile phone and tablet accessories have sourced the Speck iGuy iPad case: the perfect case for child-proofing the iPad.

As more and more educational apps become available on the iPad, the greater of a learning tool it becomes for children. Therefore the iPad needs child-proofing to prevent any accidental damage from bumps and drops, which is where the Speck iGuy case steps in.

Manufactured from a strong foam style material, the iGuy iPad 4 case looks like a character with its arms and legs, making it a great companion for children when using the iPad. It’s huggable too and thanks to the foam design can be dropped, squeezed and knocked over without causing any damage to the precious and expensive iPad.

The arms and legs of the Speck iGuy allow the iPad to be carried easily by children and also mean that it can be stood up, which is great for when videos and media is being streamed through the device. The ability to stand the iPad up which in the iPad 4 cover also means that children don’t need to holding it at all times and can sit more comfortably when media is being streamed.

Ensuring that all the features and ports of the iPad can be fully accessed whilst using the iGuy, the cover includes the cut-outs for charger, camera headphone port, meaning that other iPad 4 accessories can still be used with the iGuy case. The iGuy does come with a cover for the camera lens, just to add that extra layer of protection to the lens and to prevent it from becoming scratched.

Allowing parents to leave children with the iPad without fear of it being broken, the Speck iGuy case is available from Mobile Fun now.

 123 Kids Fun GAMES 1.0 for Mac – 7 Different Learning Games in 1 App – News

123 Kids Fun GAMES 1.0 for Mac – 7 Different Learning Games in 1 App – News

[prMac.com] Warsaw, Poland – RosMedia today is pleased to announce the release of 123 Kids Fun GAMES 1.0 for Mac. One of the largest kid’s apps available, it features 6 interactive animated games in the following categories: Alphabet, Numbers, Sounds & Words, Shapes, Animals, and Break Balloons. Each of the first 4 categories includes both Learning and Playing modes. Filled with countless hours of fun and educational value.

Really seven games in one, 123 Kids Fun GAMES is a “Best Of” collection taken from RosMedia’s more than 100 App Store and 10 Mac App Store listings. The company’s humorous and engaging illustrations and animations have made it a leader in kid’s games internationally. Interactive, talking characters include cartoon cats, mice, ducks, monkeys, frogs, bears, dogs, and more. All aspects of learning and gameplay take place outdoors in nature, and the process of gaining valuable skills is as effortless and enjoyable as noticing the billowy clouds or fields of sunflowers.

In the Alphabet category, kids see an object, read the text, and hear it aloud, “‘A’ is for Apple.” Touch the “A” and the name of the letter is heard. Touch the word “Apple” and it is pronounced to hear. Touch the big red apple, and a friendly worm appears from inside, as he is heard munching. Through all 26 letters, kids can touch & hear the names of all the letters and sample words that begin with that letter. Alphabet games let kids test their skills by dragging objects onto the appropriate letter or popping the right balloon, so that the lion can catch the correct object in his letter labeled basket.

Just as kids learn the name and sound of letters in the Alphabet category, in the Number category, they practice the name and sound of numerals from 1 to 10. Players repeatedly count groups of identical objects, establishing the relationship between number and quantity. Players can count candles on a cake in any order; each time they touch a candle its number is heard aloud and its flame is blown out. A wonderful toy train animation lets kids fill train cars with the correct number of objects.

A playful tabby with a megaphone announces the picture and matching word, with knowledge of more than 100 examples. Touch the picture and hear the duck quack; move backward or forward through the list by touching an arrow. The Sounds & Words game includes the same objects that have been introduced, allowing young students to practice selecting the “Xylophone” from a group of two other familiar objects.

Perhaps most challenging of all is the Shapes category, where kids are introduced to such terms as Rectangle, Rhombus, Arrow, Clover, Star, and Circle. Shapes only become visible after users play connect-the-dots, which creates the shape outlined. The special effects are eye-catching, and characters display a personality of their own, complete with facial expression and sound. In the Shapes game, players choose the right shape from a group of three different objects that are examples of the shape.

In a lighter vein, the Animals game lets kids scroll through the front, middle, and back of many different animals seen in profile. Match the correct three sections and win. Finally, The Break Balloons game challenges players to break balloons before they float off-screen.

 ZillyDilly for iPad – Psychiatrist’s Web Browser Promotes Kids’ Growth – News

ZillyDilly for iPad – Psychiatrist’s Web Browser Promotes Kids’ Growth – News

[prMac.com] Wilmette, Illinois – MyDigitalFamily has announced ZillyDilly 2.1 for iPad, an update to its web browser for kids, whose use promotes children’s emotional and intellectual growth, while eliminating unhealthy influences and overconsumption of media. The app features flexible Media Plans that kids and parents create together, based on the recommendations and rankings of web sites by media expert and renowned child psychiatrist Dr. Eitan Schwarz. The iPad app helps kids ages 2 to 17 stick to a balanced, healthful, media diet.

Feature Highlights:
* World’s first expert-curated browser for children
* Expert review and ranking of online games and websites for kids
* Media Plans that offer a balanced, healthful, media diet
* Fully customizable by the parent, teacher or other caregiver
* Kids love exploring all the iPad activities available through ZillyDilly

Key to the Media Plans created by ZillyDilly are GOs, Growth Opportunities, afforded by select games and web sites. The cartoon caricature of Dr. S introduces parents and kids to five different smiley-faced friends. These friends represent the five different categories of content in each kid’s personal Media Plan. ZillyDilly provides recommendations regarding the amount of time the child should spend in each of the five categories weekly, tracks their usage, displays time remaining, and disables access when the goal is reached. The app allows users to follow the Media Plan that is automatically generated based on the sex and age of the child, or users can customize their Plan by substituting items from a list of approved web sites and games.

The Five Growth Opportunity Icons: Friends that Help Structure the Media Plan
* Family – these friends have websites to help families stay close
* Talking – these show how to behave with other kids, grownups and strangers
* Citizen – this one shows us about caring, doing good things, being kind to animals, and protecting the environment
* Student – this friend has websites to make your brain strong and body healthy
* Playing – and this one is just for having fun

Dr. Eitan Schwarz, recognized media expert and author of the critically acclaimed book, “Kids, Parents & Technology: A Guide for Young Families,” has created the world’s first expert-curated browser for children. The app provides a portal to more than 70 online video games and hundreds of fully functional, handpicked websites. Dr. Schwarz and his staff have devoted much effort refining their proprietary child- and family-centered rating system at the heart of ZillyDilly.

All websites are rated for safety and efficacy by age group. Sites are scored according to 30 weighted criteria in each of several categories that include safety, Growth Opportunities, esthetics, parent/teacher resources, and other information. For example, scores for sites with distracting ads and other ways to navigate or wander off-task are adjusted for intended age, with heavier penalties assessed sites intended for younger children. On the other hand, awards, favorable reviews, excellence in delivering distraction-free Growth Opportunities, favorable purchaser comments, and bilingual content enhance a site’s total score. All sites are ranked by score, and only listed sites will come up in the browser.

Evidence continues to mount that interactive tablets do not pose the same health risks to toddlers and preschoolers as television does. Unlike television, which can damage psychological development, touchscreen devices – like tablets – have been found to promote learning. Recent research has shown that touchscreens can enhance learning and that calm, creative activities on the touchscreen, such as painting, were similar to their real world counterparts in that they “do not seem to adversely affect children’s behavior or attention in the short term.”

With its unprecedented ability to capture and hold the attention of kids, the iPad is potentially a tool for greatly enhancing learning and development at every stage of growth from age two onwards. Moreover, tablets are an essential part of preparing kids for a lifetime of responsible technology use, as these devices become increasingly a part of everyday life at school and at home.

Unfortunately, the iPad’s immense potential as a positive influence in the lives of children is matched only by the challenge of realizing that potential, given the risk-filled, utterly chaotic universe of the World Wide Web. ZillyDilly is a revolutionary meta-app designed especially to harness the positive potential of the Internet for human growth. It is designed to empower parents with an easy and effective method of providing their child with all of the best the iPad has to offer.

“As a practicing physician specializing in child, family and adolescent psychiatry, I have listened to countless parents express their frustration over the lack of authoritative guidance regarding the many hours their children spend online,” commented Eitan D. Schwarz MD, founder of MyDigitalFamily. “ZillyDilly offers a practical, well-tested solution. It will convince your child that the iPad is much more than a game delivery system and that exhilarating, fulfilling Growth Opportunities await online.”

Device Requirements:
* Compatible with iPad
* Requires iOS 5.1 or later
* 0.6 MB

Pricing and Availability:
ZillyDilly for iPad 2.1 is $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Education category. • Original music by BAFTA award-winning composer, Robin Beanland
