Art Gurus by Colto is a drawing app geared towards children under five years old. In this app, a scrollable classroom scene unfolds where we find some items that are missing color. Children are invited and encouraged to decorate, color or draw on these items as they wish and see their creations added to the scene.
What we love…
Simple to use, fun to see art come alive on the scene, it encourages creativity and imagination.
What we’d love to see…
More stickers, black crayon and pencil tool.
A simple drawing app that encourages children’s creativity.
When children tap on the items, a set of three drawing tools appear: crayons, stickers and a magic wand. The crayons come with 15 colors, perhaps to keep the little ones from being too overwhelmed. However, I noticed that black wasn’t one of them, and I wish this was included as it is standard in many crayon boxes. Like the crayons, there are only a few stickers to choose from, 18 all together. I like the selection they have, but would like to see more added in a future update. The magic wand is a tool that decorates items instantly. It can be pressed repeatedly to see the item decorated differently each time. In addition to these great tools, I would like to see colored pencils included for finer drawing or writing.
I like this app because it is very simple for little ones. It encourages them to be creative, and seeing their creations appear in the classroom is great motivation. I like that they are able to save a photo of the whole classroom by clicking on the camera icon on the page. There are external links in this app, but children are prevented from accessing with a parental lock. Be aware that if your child can read, he or she can easily open the parent lock.
I would recommend Art Gurus for very young children who like to color and who are just beginning to draw.
Grab this app if you have Peppa Pig fans at home! Not fans yet? Get it all the same if you have preschoolers! Peppa Pig : Golden Boots the app is just too fun (and educational) for your kids to miss out on! My youngest was very excited to play the app, peeping over my shoulder when I was checking it out and eventually taking over the iPad from me!
What we love…
Being able to play with Peppa Pig and her friends in their favorite games!
What we’d love to see…
More activities, the more the better.
This is a fun preschool educational game app featuring Peppa Pig characters that all kids will enjoy playing over and over again.
Since this app has been created in celebration of Peppa Pig’s first extended episode “The Golden Boots”, you naturally get to watch parts of the episode in the app. It opens with the familiar introduction to Peppa’s family that you see in all of their episodes. Then your child is invited to enter the play area and choose a favorite balloon as his/her profile icon. Up to 4 kids can create their own profiles and there is no need to key in names. Everything is easy for kids to manage by themselves.
As all fans know, the first rule of muddy puddle jumping is that you must wear your boots. In this episode, Peppa proudly shows off her special yellow boots that is made of ‘real plastic gold’, much to Suzy Sheep’s displeasure. While Peppa and her friends are indoors for orange juice, Mrs Duck comes along and walks off with Peppa’s golden boots. And so the quest to find Peppa’s golden boots begins.
First, kids are asked to make Peppa a new pair of boots for her day of adventures, using different color paints, patterns and stickers. Then they get to complete Peppa’s look with various outfits, head gears and a toy to hold. When Peppa is all set, kids can choose to play in one of the following 6 adventures:-
Dressing up Peppa! Kids will love to dress Peppa and see her appearing throughout the app in the look that they have created for her.
Find what’s hiding in the mud! Kids can wipe or tap around the muddy puddle to explore and find something hiding in the mud. But the highlight here is definitely making a Peppa Pig character jump in the mud.
Fly a rocket through space! This activity is the most challenging of the 6 games. Great eye tracking skills and hand eye coordination are needed to control the rocket through space following the path of stars while avoiding planets and collecting stars. There are 3 levels of play to cater to different abilities.
Shop at Miss Rabbit’s gift shop on the moon! Kids have to use their observation skills to help Peppa, George and Suzy search for the items requested and count them when the job is done.
Help Peppa make food and feed the ducks! This activity provides lots of opportunities for kids to exercise their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination – dragging, pouring and stirring ingredients, cutting the duck feed to smaller portions and dragging or flicking the food to the moving ducks. Kids will enjoy experimenting with different combinations of ingredients and see what happens to the food.
Sing along to the Muddy Puddles Song! The video is short but fun nonetheless.
Throughout the app, Peppa’s golden boots will appear and kids will have to quickly catch them in order to earn presents. They can play with their unwrapped presents anytime from their toy basket on the games menu.
Peppa Pig: Golden Boots is a lot of fun and giggles with games, animations and videos to educate and entertain. The activities are age appropriate and beneficial for kids’ cognitive development. There are also many opportunities for them to make decisions. This is an app that is easy and safe for preschoolers to navigate by themselves.
To all my fellow parents with young Peppa Pig fans, I say this app is a much better (and cheaper) buy than all the expensive Peppa Pig merchandise that we have been buying, so just get it already!

Exposure to the cultures and important features of various countries.
What we’d love to see…
More information about the national treasures and ability to save creative works.
A cute and oolorful app that brings your child around the world learning about the famous icons and flags of different countries through 50 early learning activities.
The app opens with a cute animation of Pacca Alpaca traveling across continents on his magical carousel and when it lands, your child is invited to choose an early learning activity from 50 available on the spinning carousel. Each activity takes your child to a new place and highlights an interesting feature of that country.
For each of the 23 countries that your child will travel to, he/she could be searching for the national animal, piecing together one of the wonders of the world, building a national monument, connecting the dots to draw a historic landmark, making the national food with stickers, spotting the odd national flower, drawing a cultural landscape or playing hide and seek with fun iconic symbols. While there are lots (50 early learning activities) to do, each activity is short and complete on its own, which is perfect for the preschoolers’ short attention span. Even though there is no in-app saving function of the children’s creative works, you can always get round it by doing screenshots.
After completing an activity, your child will be shown the flag of the country and the country name will be announced at the same time. However, I feel that the flag appears too soon and wish that there is a little more time for the children to appreciate their completed work before the flag is shown.
I like the variety of country highlights included in this app. They are all very interesting, I just wish that the app would give the name of these features as well. My favorite country highlight has to be the music that is unique to each country and I hope to see more cultural characteristics like the costumes and festivals being included in future updates.
I love the multi-national and multi-cultural exposure that this app offers. The early learning activities are age-appropirate and the visuals are captivating. It is the perfect app for preschoolers to travel round the world discovering different countries and their cultures in a fun way!
fun game that lets children unleash their creativity
What we’d love to see…
an option to animate the finished puppet and record a video of it; for the accessories to go on the puppet by just tapping on them
This app looks great, is easy to use, fun and allows little ones to be very creative!
Puppet Workshop – Creativity App for Kids by Sebastian Bachorzewski from Jump App is a fun and creative iPad only app for kids 3 to 12 years of age. Jump App are the developers of such apps as Recycling Workshop, Toy Repair Workshop and Cute food. With Puppet Workshop, kids can create their own sock or glove puppet. With all of the accessories available, the possibilities are endless! You start off by choosing a glove or a sock from the 20 different templates. You can then choose your bling from the accessories such as buttons, strings, zips, material, shapes etc. You finish off by choosing a background (either one of the provided or one you upload yourself), naming your puppet and then taking a snap for your collection.
We liked this app because it is easy to use, the graphics are simple and colourful and it is fun. The fact that there are lots of socks or gloves and accessories to choose from is a great feature. My almost three year old loves this app, she was pretty excited when she saw it and started to make her puppet straight away. She has now made her own collection of puppets.
I wish the sock or glove could actually move like a puppet once all dressed up and you could record yourself doing a puppet show and play the video later. I also would have liked it if the accessories would go on the puppet by just tapping on them from the list as it can be a bit difficult for little hands to scroll threw all the variations of buttons for example and drag them through to the puppet. I think those features would be more beneficial than being able to rotate, flip or change the size of the accessories.
The app has a separate ‘more apps’ page which can be accessed with a simple click but it requires the solving of a math problem to download extra apps. A separate parents’ page contains information, settings and contact details that can be accessed by pressing & holding the area to enter. There are no in-app purchases, ads, social media links or data collection in this app.
Overall we love this app and would recommend it. It is fun and because it is simple and has great graphics, little ones can be creative without making any mess! With a few extras, this app would be fantastic!
