Today’s interview is with Altai Zeinalov of Diveo Media.
Thank you for participating our interview. Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Altai Zeinalov, I am 26 years old and I live in Estonia. I am founder of Diveo Media. When I was a child I always dreamed about creating my own cartoons. I love everything which is connected to filming, editing and animation. That is why I am author of fairy tales which you can find in our app Little Stories.
I like to be very creative and I hate to be like everyone else. Sending to my friends on their Birthday message like “”Wish you all the best”” is not for me. I am always trying to write something unique and make friends say “”wow, best wish ever!”” And to make your readers surprised I want to add that I love drumming.
How did the idea for your app come about?
Lets start from the beginning. I grew in a big family and this is the reason why I love kids so much. I have the younger brother who is 7 years old. His name is Rafael and he is the best brother in the world. When he was 4 I noticed that he watches my movies and cartoons very attentively (I think this is because he heard my voice). Then I decided to make cartoons where my brother was a main character. I told about that idea to my friend and he said that I could make an app. Then I thought inside myself: “”Why not?! This is great!”
And how long was the process from the original idea to the release of the app?
You can count. My brother was 4 years old and we launched our app when he was 7. So, it took almost 3 years to release an app, however, the development took only 11 months. The hardest thing was to start doing something. I waited for something for a year and then it took another year to realize in which way I should move. I decided to stop searching inside Estonia and went outside.
Did you hire a developer or do it yourself?
“We have 8 people in our team: 3 artists, 2 developers, 1 composer, 1 translator and 1 author (who is me). I found all these guys on the Internet. They are all from different cities but from one country – Russia. We have never met in real world, we work remotely and Skype helps us a lot. I am happy that each member of our team believes in Diveo Media’s success and does his work with passion. We made very warm relationships to each other and that improves our motivation. Everyone are talented and really nice persons.
What has been the hardest obstacle you have had to overcome in the development process?
That might sounds funny, but the hardest thing was to determine the period of development and it is still hard. We thought we could release our app in four months when in reality, it took almost a year. When you work remotely, there are so much stuff which can derail your plans. Now it is a little easier to us to make right forecasts, statistics helps.
Have you had much support during the development process (from family, peers, Apple Inc.)?
Well, my mom believed in success, but my dad was very skeptical but he invested his money in this project. I am very thankful for that support! Yes, it could be better if my parents knew how to motivate people but I am glad that I know how to do that now.
What are your plans for the future? Will you be developing any more apps?
We want to be the number one developer for kids in Russia in 2018 year and to be the best in the world in 2021. In 2016 we are planning to release 3 new apps, one of them is colorings which help children to instill the good taste of art.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone considering creating their own app?
Enthusiasm is the first thing you should care about. Enthusiasm energizes your team and makes development much more interesting. Start your project with passion and you will find great results, I promise!
Thank you so much for talking with us today and sharing a bit about your company. We really appreciated the chance to get to know you!
