The ITG Level case from Patchworks is designed to provide good drop protection in a slim package. It is available for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 4 color choices: red, sand, white or black. I tested the iPhone 6 version in red.
The ITG Level meets military drop standards- which means it has been tested with 26 consecutive free fall drops (at different angles) from a 4 ft height. Knowing it has passed this level of drop test makes me feel safe about using it on my phone to protect against everyday drops and mishaps.
The case presents as a single piece that snaps on to your phone, although it is actually made up of 2 layers fused together. It is made from polycarbonate and TPU. The TPU layer is black, it forms the layer closest to the phone and gives it a little flex when inserting the phone. It has a diamond pattern on the inside, and is smooth on the outside. The TPU layer has button covers for the volume and power switches, and cutouts over the camera and ports.
The polycarbonate layer gives a hard shell to the case. It covers the back of the phone and half way up the sides, leaving the TPU layer exposed over part of the sides and front of the case giving a dual color look to the case. This layer is available in different coors, in my case it is red.
The case itself does not come with any screen protection, but is is designed to work with the ITG Pro Plus Tempered glass screen protector, and can be purchased with or without the screen protector. I am a big fan of tempered glass screen protectors- in my experience they work much better than other screen covers, are less prone to bubbles, give better protection and a better touchscreen response. The one negative comment I would make about the screen protector/ case combo, is that there is slight gap between the screen protector and case edge all the way around, which may trap dirt. It feels like the screen protector could do with being slightly larger, but this may be to prevent the screen protector being accidentally removed when installing or removing the case.
The case is simple to install – having just the TPU layer in the area around the buttons and ports gives the case the flexibility it needs to allow it to slip on to the phone without too much effort, yet it is stiff enough to stay firmly in place once on.
For a protective case it does have a very slim profile, the iPhone 6 is approx. 6.9mm (0.27″) thick without a case, compared to 10mm (3/8″) in the case. This means it feels pretty comfortable slipping into a pocket. As the case is designed to work with the Pro Plus screen protector the front bevel is just slightly (approx. 1mm) higher than the screen protector to keep it in place and protected.
The TPU on the sides of the case is textured which helps to stop it slipping from your hand when in use, a useful feature. The back of the case is smooth- it would be nice to have some texture added here too, so it doesn’t slide when placed on a table or other flat surface.
The button covers are responsive and easy to press, and the ports and camera cutouts work well.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the ITG Level case for iPhone 6- it provides good drop protection in a slim, lightweight package and it works well as an everyday iPhone case.
