CogniFit for iPhone and iPad is a brain fitness and cognitive training by Cognifit which you can complete on your device to improve brain memory, train cognitive skills and improve memory. It is recommended for children thirteen and older. This app works on a variety of cognitive skills and abilities including: auditory short-term memory, contextual Memory, distance estimation, divided attention, focus, eye-hand coordination, inhibition, long term memory, naming, planning, processing speed, recognition, response time, shifting, short-term memory, spatial perception, speed estimation, updating, non-verbal memory, visual perception, visual scanning, visual short term memory, and working memory. There are two modes within the app, play and train. This app does integrate with Game Center and does require a login which allows you to transfer your progress from one device to another.
One of my favorite mini-games was the the Mahjong game, it presents you with a series of boards each slightly more difficult than the last and then you have to match the tiles. You can link with others who use the app and challenge them or just try for your own personal best. The training sessions allow you to practice your skills prior to a challenge. The fuel a car game was interesting as well – since it required you to fill up multiple cars at the same time which practiced sequencing as well as open the gate when the car was fueled up otherwise you lost points.
I do wish you could do a challenge without linking to others as the training is a great aspect but it would be fun to actually do the challenge without having to have connections. There is a way now that you can scroll through and find various connections, but if you wish to remain anonymous it seems to be difficult to use the entire app. This app does contain in-app purchases for additional neurons which can be earned by doing training or by purchasing them. In the future, I’d like to see the purchasing on neurons locked out or require some sort of a passcode as this app is likely to be on a device which a child has access to.
Overall. this app provides a great concept of practicing brain fitness an important skill that all of us should practice on a regular basis to help keep our minds sharp. This app is suggested for individuals over the age of 18, and can be used by people seeking to improve memory, those with challenges retaining items in memory, Alzheimer’s Disease and other conditions which may inhibit memory.

Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her two sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
